Rainbow school is a boarding school for stateless refugee children from the local tribes in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Here on the border of Thailand and Myanmar, they live and study, exploring and practicing balanced and sustainable ways of living and learning from nature and technology.
Statelessness means that they have difficulty accessing basic rights such as education, healthcare, employment and freedom of movement. The school is committed to support these children to complete further education and gain an official ID for better future.
Children as young as 5 years old learn life skills such as growing vegetables, breaking woods for logs, cooking and financial management from profit they make by selling vegetables they grow.
Takeshi visits the school every winter as a lead dance artist to give them dance and performance workshops. His programmes are designed to integrate holistic learning of their own bodies as an expressive and communicational tool as well as empower these children and teachers through engaging with arts.
